I almost didn't read this book. It was too long for a Sunday night, it started off too dull, and I have so many other books to read. I'd already been disappointed by Papa John's BBQ wings I was not ready for more. Yet I forced myself to continue reading as I enjoyed the a nice summer evening on the back porch with the animals. I pushed myself even when I wanted to stop and it was well worth it.Finally the story came together after a sudden violent confrontation. I felt so sorry for the MC who narrated the book. I shared his parents frustration at his inability to understand emotions. He was was so robotic without any affect. The conflict between his wolf and his human was painful to see. His treatment of his only friend was abominable over the years, but he was just being himself.
After he became an adult his life was if anything harder. He and his family experienced some terrible times before things began to turn around. Coming to terms with having a male mate was extremely difficult for him and other wolves in his & surrounding packs. His mate was truly made for him. The ying to his yang. The Cheech to his Chong. I was glad to see him with someone who understood him. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially to The Mates series fans and those of you who've never enjoyed them.

I loved the first two books so despite the negative reviews decided to give this one a go. It started out okay though it was pretty obvious what Samuel's issue was. Not sure why Cardeno C. decided to make him so unlikable and whiny or why he had such little interaction with Korban. The ending was okay but I will confess to skipping the middle. I didn't realize that Samuel's dad didn't lose the challenge but was murdered and wasn't moved to go back and get the details. I really should have skipped this one. I don't know if more are planned but if so, please go back to dual point of views. We never really get to know Korban and why he made the choices he did creating a huge hole in the story. I really can't recommend this one. Stick to the first two.
Samuel and Korban meet as kids, and Samuel is immediately distrustful of him because of the way Korban makes him feel. Samuel is convinced that Korban must have an ulterior motive in making him feel uncomfortable, different.
They see each other very sporadically through the years, at interpack meetings, since they're both the sons and presumptive Alphas of their respective packs. While Samuel is book smart and tries so diligently to train under his loving father to become Alpha, he lacks the more human elements of empathy and camaraderie among his pack members. He has no friends and is socially awkward. Korban is his opposite. He's popular and well liked by everyone but has a strained relationship with his own dad.
They're three years apart and their initial meeting is when Samuel is 8 years old and their mating takes place when he's 23 years old. Korban knows immediately what Samuel is to him - his true mate, but it takes a traumatic experience for Samuel to realize the same.
However, once Samuel and Korban get together, I really love how they are devoted to each other and bring out the best in each other. They're sexy, playful, and honest. They're a great couple. If this series continues, I hope we'll continue to see glimpses of them in future installments to see how well they're doing.
I really enjoyed this book. I'd recommend reading the books in order but, in my opinion, these books could work as standalone as well.
So well worth the wait, as always Cardeno C delivered again. I had been looking forward to this 3rd book in "The Mates Series", of which I am a big fan and I must say that I was very pleased. I read it all in one go. I found the MC's very easy to like. The story is told from Samuel's perspective and gives us an insight to his internal turmoils. The fact that Samuel was so serious,studious and thrived to excel by being the best in everything and was well versed in the Pack law and was determined to be the best and strongest Alpha ever but was unfortunately emotionally challenged gave him an endearing quality.Ever since he was 8years old when he first laid his eyes on Korban Keller, whenever he was around him, he always experienced emotions he could not understand and that made him off balance , confused and angry. As he grew older he found it more difficult to hold on to his human side and even though he guessed the reason for this, he did not know what to do about it . He knew that it was only a matter of time before he lost himself to his wolf side but did not know that his saviour would come in the form of the presumptive Alpha from the neighbouring Miancarem pack and his secret obsession Korban Keller .
On the other hand, Korban had known whom Samuel was to him since he was 11years okay and had patiently hoped over the years that Samuel would realise what they were to each other, 'True Mates'. Korban was the exact opposite of Samuel, he was amiable, easy going and was beloved by many. A threat to the pack by a challenge from Dirk Keller, Korban's father which resulted in a tragedy brought these two face to face again and it finally dawned on Samuel what had been missing from his life all along, his True mate. It was a big wake up call for Samuel, because he realised that some of the Pack guides and laws that he had studied most of his life was not only inaccurate but was wrong as he was a living proof of it. On the positive side, he was more grounded having found his true mate and together they face the challenges and threats that reared it's ugly head. This book was well written, it had all the markings of a great shifter novel, Love, action, drama and great sex , let's not forget a HEA. (It was also lovely to hear that ETHAN and MIGUEL were still doing great after so many generations together ) What more can one ask for? I highly recommend this book to all lovers of great shifter romance novels.
